Visual Strategy Diagram for COVID-19

A visual strategy diagram is a particular type of visual model drawn according to a set of conventions that extracts strategy from decision-makers heads, from strategy documents and from strategy discussions. The strategy diagram is then used as a ‘shared thinking tool’ that decisions-makers can use.

‘Shared thinking tool’

Decision-makers go through the boxes in the model; identify which are current priorities; check what is currently being done about these priority boxes; and, work out what has to be done next for any boxes they are concerned about. This means that decision-makers do not have to hold a mental model of the whole strategy-space in their heads. It is easier for them to quickly assess whether the right things are being done during strategy implementation because we have extracted the mental model of the strategy for them to work directly on in the real world.

Below is a poster version of a mock-up of a country or region-wide strategy for COVID-19. It has not been endorsed in any way by the NZ Government. Get in contact if you want to talk about this model or any other aspect of our work.
